My Home DNA Skin Care Analysis Results!

Hello beautiful people! Since I was a young girl, I've always looked younger then my age. My mother is the same way as is her mother. When I was a pre-teen I used to wish I looked older but people always told me, "just wait till you get older. You'll appreciate it then." They were right. I do appreciate it now especially now that I'm in my mid-30's and don't get nearly enough sleep as I should thanks to me kids. I'm actually not that strict about taking care of my skin. I frequently sleep in my makeup and just touch it up in the morning.

Hey! When you have 4 kids and have to get them all out the door in the morning in a timely manner, you just might to. Haha! The truth is, I've been doing this since my 20's. It's not so much that because of my young looking genes that I think I can get away with things, but there are other things that I've been doing that have helped keep my complexion looking good. Since I could remember I've always used a facial moisturizer with SPF 15, I also started using an eye cream at 20 years old. Also take note that good skin care starts from the outside in. If you eat tons of junk food, or smoke, or do other things that aren't great for your body, it's going to show on your skin. I enjoy sweets, but I also eat a fairly healthy balanced diet. As far as face washing and moisturizing products I've always just used brands you could find at Walgreen's or Target. Nothing fancy. I've tried higher end brands from Sephora or a department store and haven't seen a difference to be honest.

When I was approached by the HomeDNA company to try their skin care test, I jumped at the chance to find the back story on my skin and how to best treat any signs of aging.  Home DNA testing puts control back into your hands allowing you to make the right choices concerning beauty and diet regimes that work specifically for you needs based on scientific facts. This saves you time and money by avoiding the products that don't necessarily work for you.

The test identifies your skin's genetic potential in seven key areas:

*Collagen Quality
*Skin Elasticity
*Fine lines & Wrinkles
* Sun Protection
Pigmentation
*Skin Antioxidants
*Skin Sensitivity

The kit comes with cheek swabs, instructions, and a postage paid envelope to send back to the lab. The results are ready and available to view online in about three weeks once the lab receives them. Overall my global average was leaning towards optimal. After my global average I was also scored on each category listed above.

The first category was fine lines and wrinkles and I was happy to see that my score was optimal. Honestly this category was what I most wondered about because it's fine lines and wrinkles that make people look older.

The only category that I didn't score too great in was "sun protection" I was on the lower end of the global average. This means that UV rays from sunlight play a role in skin aging. My results indicate I carry some of the gene variations that can weaken my skin's natural protection against the sun. it was nice to see the recommended topical and supplement ingredients that can help combat this.

Overall I thought this was a really neat and innovative product! It was nice to have confirmed how my genes/heritage came into play regarding the condition of my skin.

So what do you think about this product? Would you try HomeDNA testing for a personalized skin care analysis?

Disclosure: The HomeDNA Kit and Lab Results were provided to me. All thoughts about the experience are completely my own.

Roses are red....

That's all I got. It's not valentine's day. Currently Ava is screaming in the other room with H. It's a little after 10:00 pm and I'm just trying to catch a small break from the girl's. Every waking moment is usually spent with them. I'm tired ya'll! I love them like crazy but I'm spent. She's refusing to go to sleep this evening and I'm over it. Wish Ava was as happy all day and night like this photo we took yesterday, and while I'm wishing, I wish she slept better as well. I'm always talking about how busy I am, but these past weeks have really taken the cake. Sometimes I wonder if I'm doing this stay at home/work from home mom thing wrong. How is it that I don't relax at all till after they go to bed? That when I lay down my body is as tired as if I had been out all day doing some kind of back breaking work. I wish things were easier. I love this season in life with the girl's being little, and having one in high school but it's a hard season.

Ps. I picked up this red eyelet dress last week from Target and it's amazing. Super comfortable and the best thing about it is, I got it under clearance for only $8.99! What a steal. It didn't come with a belt. I just added a red ribbon to give it better shape. It's currently unavailable online, but it may be able to be found in their clearance racks. I've linked a few similar below.

Have a great Wednesday!

It's been 84 years....

Said in my best Rose Dewitt from Titanic voice....

That's how long it feels that it's going to take me to finish this french provincial dresser!

It's coming along though. Hurricane Harvey had me putting it on the back burner and shortly after H and Ava got back, Hurricane Irma was on the way, so again it was put on the back burner. The kids were off school for a week and a half and they just went back yesterday. This weekend I started the project back up again. I'd say it's about 75% done. I'm hoping sometime by next week it will be complete. I'm really getting so sick of Layla and Mariam pulling their clothes out of their closet shelves every day! It's a huge mess. Sometimes I just put them back for them so it can be done a little neater or else they'll just shove all the clothes back in there.

In it's ugly infancy.

Ready to be painted.

It's coming along.

Currently I am doing the drawers and then I have to go back and touch up any places the gold paint spilled over on the white. Also have to spray paint the hardware gold. The girls wanted to help a bit. I didn't let them sand really. They just gently went over a few drawers with a sanding sponge that's already worn down. Not sure how old the original paint is and what it has in it.

When all is said and done, I'll be doing a full post with the complete and detailed process and letting you know the mistakes I made and any new tricks I picked up,

Oh! I forgot to mention before, that the dresser came with a mirror! I'm not attaching it to the dresser though. Rather I decided to hang it in the breakfast nook. I really agonized painting over the original gold detailing, but I was not trying to spend another 84 years trying to redo it all! It turned out great all white.

Have a nice Tuesday!

Hurricane to your left. Hurricane to your right.

Hurricane season is definitely here. H and Ava just got back last Sunday from Houston and now here we are in Florida preparing for Hurricane Irma. This feels like the longest drawn out hurricane ever! I pray there is no devastation in Florida. I wish it would just get on with it and go out into the ocean.

(Yesterday 9/8/17 when mild gusts started. It was pretty sunny most of the day)

(Today 9/9/17. Overcast, rainy and windy)

Right now H is reading a story to the girls and I'm taking a quick moment to update my blog. The girls have been off school since Thursday and the schools will still be closed on Monday. We've been spending a lot of time outside but around 2 pm today the rain started and it's been off an on. There are wind gusts here and there and the conditions are getting worse now. Hurricane Irma should hit the Florida Keys early tomorrow morning. We are prepared and initially it was fore casted to hit the east side of south Florida, but it's now over on the west coast and we are out of the cone. We'll see what tomorrow brings but we are prepared. I think at best we just might get some tropical storm winds.

Due to everything that's been going on and everyone preparing for the hurricane, life feels like it's been put on standstill again. Before this came about I was still continuing to work on refurbishing a dresser and preparing for Ava's birthday party. She turns 2 this Tuesday but I'll be pushing her birthday party to some time later this week. Business has still been going. I've left the shop open and all orders have been shipped out. I'm hoping my mom can come visit next week. She's literally waiting as well to see what is going to happen with this hurricane. She originally wanted to drive out tomorrow afternoon from Texas. If the weather is going to be bad the rest of the week as well, there is no sense in her coming. We'll see what happens. Everything is just hanging in the air right now.

Have a good weekend.

Update on my family & Hurricane Harvey

I'm happy to report that H and Ava were reunited the day before yesterday. I feel like I can breathe so much easier. I'm still stressed over the situation and seeing all the images of what it is going on in Texas is heartbreaking, but my anxiety has gone down a bit. I think I literally made myself sick. I now have a massive cold again and I feel so weary. I can hardly sleep. I know they are safe and also enjoying spending quality time with family, but I'm just so ready to have them home! I'm trying to keep it in perspective. I feel pretty crappy right now with exhaustion from parenting solo at the moment, and this cold....but I could be sleep deprived with a cold and sleeping in a shelter, or stuck on my roof so I feel bad for complaining as well.

My mother and brothers, relatives and friends are all doing ok. Some don't know if water got in their homes, but we're praying it didn't. The sun has started to shine and the waters are starting to recede so that is good news. The city will thrive again. It's going to take some time, but they'll get there. Seeing people band together to help their fellow neighbor has been amazing. It's things like this that restore my faith in humanity again. I am bracing myself for the stories that are going to start coming out regarding looters. I mean what kind of low life do you have to be to take advantage of another's misfortune? Let's just hope people behave themselves. I'm not holding my breath, but I can hope.

H's flight is scheduled for Friday if they can get to the airport. Their subdivision is not flooded, but surrounding roads are. If they can't make it Friday, the next flight they have booked is Sunday.

Have a good Wednesday.

The kids are back in school and I think I sent my baby to a hurricane...

Serena |9th grade| Layla |1st grade| Mariam |Pre-K|

I have not even had a moment to really sit here on blog. I even feel like even my online work for my business has been rushed. Social media pics are done on the fly while waiting in the car rider line, or when I'm able to steal a moment.

Phew. Let me just take a moment to breathe here.....

Wooshaaaaaa........

Ok. So summer is over and the girls are back in school. I was so looking forward to getting back into a busier structured routine with the kids, and I'm glad but at the same time I'm like "what have I gotten myself into?!" No rest for the weary. My girls are worth it though. I now have 3 in school and so far our days have been crazy. I take Mariam and Serena each morning. H takes Layla, but I have 3 pickups at 3 different schools in the afternoon. Mondays are ballet after school for Mariam, Tuesdays Serena has a volunteering shift at the library. Wednesday's Serena has another volunteering shift at the library and then church choir practice. Thursdays thank God nothing after school. Friday's Layla has ballet after school. I was wondering how our dinner plans were going to be affected, but they really haven't. In fact we eat early consistently now. It works by prepping early or even cooking a portion of the meal in the morning or early afternoon. Anyone else feel like you're living out of your car with school aged kids?

You're probably wondering about baby Ava. It's been so nice having just her for 2 hours in the mornings while the girls are in school. She is unfortunately still not sleeping though the night, and it does make an already exhausting day a little more difficult. I think it was the sleep deprivation that motivated me into being convinced to let her fly to Houston with H the other day not realizing a major hurricane had been forming, and is heading to the Texas coast as I type this now (Face palm). H  really wanted to take her, and his family wanted to see her, so I agreed when we talked about it over a week ago. Hurricane Harvey is expected to make landfall tonight in Corpus Christi which is about 3 hours from Houston. We aren't worried about Houston being affected too much, but all the rain will definitely be an issue. I'm afraid they won't be able to come back on Sunday as planned. I will say that the media really hypes things up and you'll find yourself feeling alarmed if you watch the news long enough. I just skyped with my husband and Ava and all is well at the moment. He showed me that it was only slightly drizzling outside, but if you were to watch a news forecaster at the same moment, they would be in an ugly part of town that is prone to flooding and making it seem as though the situation is dire.  I'll update on Monday again with the latest. I know all my family, my baby and my husband are going to be fine, but I sure do miss them.

Have a good weekend.

Boots! Mini style

I've always adored little boots on babies, but as my own got older, it wasn't their first shoe to gravitate too once they started choosing for themselves. That is until I had Mariam. She loves boots and will wear them with any type of outfit. I think it's adorable! I think they're good for her too because she likes to get messy, though I do try to discourage her from playing outside with them too long. Sometimes I just let her. Depends if I feel like having a fight on my hands.

There's that fiery spirit we all know and love!....uh most of the time....Like every time except when she's throwing a tantrum.

The tassel boots are from Target which I don't think they carry anymore, and the most recent tan boots--that look like the target ones are from Gymboree bought during their tax free weekend sale. They were $5.98. I kid you not. The sale was that good! I even bought Ava a pair. They are still on sale too but at $9.99. Snag yourself a pair here!

A few more you might love!

Ten classy books your little one needs.

It's never to early to start reading to your baby and these days there are a ton of adorable hardback books that not only are fun to read to your little one, but make great decor as well. I love to read and enjoy reading to my kids. Reading about some of my favorite icons, cities, and inspirational people makes it that much more fun! A few years back I bought a few classics for my girls such as "Pride & Prejudice" from Baby lit and recently I discovered the "little people big dreams" series.

Here is a round-up of my favorite classy books for little ones!

All of these books can be find on Amazon.com

Have a great Monday! I don't know about you all but I'm finding myself in survival mode with less than two weeks before school starts.

Out with boring laundry

My main laundry basket has been dying a slow death lately.

Um. Yeah....I don't know how I let it get this bad!

So I picked up a new cute and sturdy laundry basket from Target the other day.

The only problem is--something was missing.

There that's better. Who says your laundry baskets have to be boring?

I've been in a major "add trims and tassels to everything" sort of mood. Last year it was polka dots. You don't need any fancy sewing skills to add more spruced up objects in your life. Get yourself a hot glue gun, your embellishments of choice and go to town!

Happy Wednesday!

Sweet summer top

Soooo originally this top I made was supposed to be for Mariam, but it came out too big, so now it's Layla's. (ah the beauty of having 4 girls. ) I have a love/hate relationship with sewing clothes. One, I do things the hard way. I don't use patterns for any clothes I do for the girls. I simply eyeball the design I have in mind and go for it. I prefer making accessories because I like quick results. My patience is a work in progress.

I do a lot of DIY projects and I wish I could more tutorials but it's too hard with the children. When I do things, I have to move quickly and stopping to photograph the whole process and then write the post takes for-ever! I promise I'll still continue to document some tutorials for you guys--I just can't do it for all my projects at this current stage in my life.

I also made a few hand towels for the kitchen. So easy. I bought some terry cloth at my local fabric store. Cut it to the size I wanted, serged the longest sides and then added a trim of my choice on both ends. A great simple way to add your own style to your kitchen or bathroom.

Have a great weekend!
